BYOB's goldmine does a good job of showing what BYOB is all about and why it's such a chill forum. It's not mean-spirited at all, I think there is a sort of whimsy quality to it. Even if the Comment Box has not brought change to the other forums, I think BYOB still pleases goons who just want to hang out and have a good time without any of the bullshit.

But does that mean that Lowtax has really learned his lesson? NO and he is proving it in BYOB to boot!

I don't get why some people hate BYOB. I mean there are those who don't think it's funny, okay, but then there are people that hate it!

Lowtax choked on his vomit and died! This blog will be taking a new direction to look at some other issues on SA.

Remember that shitty blog about the front page? It was dumb! Some frontpage articles are terrible I think, but others are pretty funny. I don't think it helps much to attack every artcle & writer out of personal anger.

But, I think SA needs to hear more about what's actually witty, and what's just offensive or nonsense for its own sake. (and the circlejerking in the Frontpage Discussion forum isn't going to help!)

I'm still trying to figure out why Zack Parsons did that article about Juliana Wetmore. It's like he was trying to be sympathetic while at the same time making fun of her, which IMO has nothing to do with skewering pro-lifers! We've accused Debt of being Ice Traigh, and of handing his blog over to Lowtax as a middle finger to "real" anti-SA critics; while I still believe some of R21C's conclusions were logical given all the drama of this past week, Debt deserves the benefit of the doubt here. He sent a couple of e-mails to me:

None of that fake shit on your site is me, the only legit comments are the one with the betty page pic. I am sorry Ice Traigh has caused you all this trouble, but really I would just delete all comments from that idiot fuck, he's just an insane attention whore. Allowing his comments is just what he wants.

Agreed, but I do want to leave comments unrestricted, and by now I think we can all recognize an anonymous Ice Traigh comment. Readers - you'll be able to recognize legitimate Debt or No-Tax comments by the presence of our avatars.

I gave Lowtax admin on the site and I'll just let it implode and fade out of existance. No I am not Ice Traigh. I have posted some emails in your comments "proving" this although they could be faked sure. As Ice Traigh he got berated in every post and kept writing articles about the front page I advised him to make his own blog and then I "fired" him and he was re- invited as "randomo" to some moderate success, but by then the site was winding down anyway. I deleted all the writers except me and langley and Lowtax and then posted the "Game over" message. Then suddenly out of the blue Lowtax started updating the site, and emailed me to ask for admin access so I gave him that. That's about it, the entire truthful story.

I regret getting involved with Ice Traigh, he seems a little unstable and ready to turn on anyone in an instant. I really like your site and I hope you continue to make great comics as always. RATF just ran out of steam because the comment box replaced all our
content, plus I made that promise to Lowtax.

...I don't know if you believe me or not but I decided to glance at your site today and saw you accusing me of being Ice Traigh, so this email is to set the record straight. Update: "Debt" removes the Last Measure redirect & offers this explanation for RATF's end. Of course he titles it "Game Over" just as he did TFPS's last entry.

I wish that the given explanation were true, because The Comment Box is terribly ineffective, and he did sadly spend a lot of time & effort lobbying for it; however, knowing that Debt is Ice Traigh rewrites the entire history of RATF and - more importantly - undermines all of those goons who supported reforms in the SA community.

Ice Traigh says he was Debt, which would make sense given the simultaneous collapse of "The Front Page Sucks" and RATF. It'd also make sense because we know he was more than one of RATF's former writers, and many more than one blog troll.

So basically this, if true, would mean that RATF was never at all an attempt to improve SA; it was merely a gambit by Ice Traigh to leave his mark on the forums and massage his ego.

Effort. But it paid off in the form of The Comment Box, I suppose. If you're the type to consider that a payoff after a couple months of schizophrenic blogging: firing yourself, trolling yourself, writing a score of in-depth articles as well as perhaps hundreds of comments - and adopting several different identities to do it.

This, if true, also means that we brought RATF down last night when Ice Traigh shit his pants following this post.

Either way, he remains a sterling example of an Internet user whose waning self-esteem was warped by the SA community into something worse. Dare I say, "something..."? Nah, I won't say it.

Traigh's relied on "crazyyellow", "squinchy500" and others to back him up in whining about this blog. It likely won't stop because, clearly, Ice Traigh's fragile ego gives way to a stalker-ish resolve when it comes to people who don't give a shit about him.

That said, there will certainly be feigned smugness over the fact that this entry was written (although now that I've written that, his defense will likely be to paint me as the egotist).

But the purpose of this post is just to let readers know how to recognize Ice Traigh's spam, as he will surely continue to imagine himself the Lecter-esque manipulator so well illustrated by Blowblax.

Yes, I realize no one else cares about Traigh either - alas, indifference is the flame to Ice Traigh's flitting moth. That's why he's here. So be ready for more of it. There was also a mention of R21C in BYOB today. It was suggested that R21C is authored by Flukes, who appears to be BYOBpedia's benefactor yet has become a BYOB outcast. I don't know the history there so I won't make assumptions. Anyway, I'm not Flukes.

Newcomers confused by the comics would probably benefit from reading earlier ones, since there's a developing storyline. Blowblax, who currently writes the comics, supports BYOB & still thinks it has potential as a community. I remain pessimistic.

This is generating a lot of talk, and rightfully so, so here are my two cents as a fellow SA critic (and we're not in competition with one another - this isn't dramawhoring).

The interview accomplishes little because Lowtax seeks to nullify every point Debt makes (even in answers where he starts with "I can see that, but..."). He keeps saying that RATF-style criticism is needed, but he doesn't seem to agree with anything posted thus far by Debt & co. So what's he basing his stance on?

By the end they're going in circles, with Lowtax insisting that an outlet like RATF is necessary & offering some constructive criticism; all the while turning down Debt's many suggestions & saying he wants no hand in the process. The process of improving his own website.

This "suggestion box", unfortunately, will probably become more of a comedy feature than a useful tool.

Obviously not, but I have to wonder what the administration's real agenda is. SA's never been known to pander to its critics, and Lowtax has made it apparent that he has no fear of losing revenue based on the forums' perceived shittiness.

Here's what I'm thinking. Mr. Kyanka recently started rolling out new lines of worthless crap t-shirts, and has also publicly outlined his other business ventures as reported by Debt. I think Lowtax is reforming his image a bit & massaging the fragile egos of goons in order to sell merchandise.

I guess you really have to hand it to SA for keeping the ads at a bare minimum, although it'd be more admirable if Lowtax didn't whine about it - but it's not all that admirable to stroke off previously-maligned users in order to peddle "RAP" shirts.

Blowblax is pretty much handling comics at the moment. He's come up with a fresh perspective & offered to share it while I, meanwhile, clear my throat of some phlegm.

My own take on BYOB in the present day: Stoat Box enforcing some rules wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. The "YOU CAN POST ANYTHING HERE!!" mantra has led to a lot of unoriginal goons doing a terrible impression of FYAD.

But the question is: does BYOB, with or without mod effort, still have the potential to become a melting pot of free-form humor without succumbing to elitism? Personally I'm leaning towards no. (And even if this subforum did make a turnaround, I suspect its spirit would be crushed out before BYOB could really take on a life of its own.)

I remember when FYAD lambasted the amateur stand-up of goon Flying-Squid. Admittedly, I cringed watching his stage comedy and what I could tolerate of "The Skeletor Show"; but I just listened to the Something Awful podcast.

I thought some parts were pretty good, other parts horrible. But that's just my personal opinion. For every SA feature, there are those who enjoy it and those who don't. (There are probably sheeple in both of those camps too.) Mostly, I'm writing about the podcast because of its opening retort to RATF.

I mean, really. You could have done a shitload better than "I'd like to see you make better forums!" - especially when Debt's pointed out all the times that Radium can barely keep SA's forums up & running. It's not a question of whether anyone can build a comparable community, it's whether Lowtax can be less of a Nazi to his. Just because he keeps bringing in money despite a crappy attitude doesn't mean he knows (or cares) what he's doing.

I don't suppose your podcast will ever be responding to the allegations of blatant sexism and bigotry across the site & forums. Instead, you'll keep making fun of GBSers by reading posts aloud & with yawnfests like "Forum Girl Found" - and they'll keep lapping it up.

Guys like Danny Manic and Fragmaster who are genuinely witty can do better than getting roped into this tripe.

Fuck you assholes. Quit thinking that everything to do with SA is a little present wrapped in shiny paper to be ripped to shreds by you stupid sexist bigots. The more you hound this blog and mock everything I say as propaganda from a cookie dough-addled hambeast, the more your hypocrisy shines through.

I've made an effort to analyze the reasons why so many people are hurt by the SA forums. I've actually offered examples, refuted arguments and given SA credit where credit's due. Meanwhile, you are the ones who blindly dismiss everything with that too-cool-to-care façade slapped on your grinning faces.

But the harder I push the issue and the more evidence I produce (along with RATF's extensive blogwork), you get angrier and angrier in defense of "your" FYAD and its mystical essence that no mere mortal could ever understand. THERE IS NOTHING TO "GET" ABOUT YOUR CIRCLEJERK. The closer that outsiders come to realizing this the more self-righteous you fucks become, until finally like Wesley Baker you're kicking your tiny legs and shitting on the new carpet.

It's yet another tragic fallacy of the Internet. You think you can perpetrate acts of humiliation and vile hatred without consequence, and you think you can hide your shallow and worthless true selves behind the curtain of what FYAD "really is".

FYAD is a place where hopeless bastards can isolate themselves from the rest of the Internet. That's all that's behind the curtain. It's not an ivory tower - it's the same angry hole where you hide in the so-called "real world".

It's become clear to me that FYAD is actually the root of the problem in the SA community. Case in point, BYOB - just another meta-joke at GBS's expense. Case in point, Lowtax's response to my open letter - defending cruelty toward GBS by explaining that, well, FYAD attacks all the other subforums!

I recently wrote an open letter to Lowtax concerning FYAD elitism and GBS abuse. We do agree on one thing - my beliefs aren't going to be altered by this e-mail exchange. But he took the time to respond to my charges, so here's his reply.

First of all, the majority of people banned do not re-register. I know saying this won't make any difference to anybody because I've written it countless times and nobody wants to believe it, but oh well.

"FYAD, your favorite forum, degrades and abuses GBSers at every turn. As part of FYAD, so do you." - Name one forum FYAD does *not* make fun of. That's the whole point of FYAD.

Who is protected from insult? Who can I make fun of? I insult the mods and admins all the time in FYAD and they don't care because they know I'm not being serious. The people on the forums are grown ups, and if they are really sensitive to mean words written about them on a pink forum surrounded by dicks and anime and maple story circlejerks, then they are probably posting on the wrong forum. Also can you please give me some names of people banned because they don't "meet 'yad standards"? I don't believe I've ever banned anybody for that, ever.

Edit: I may as well post this here instead of just in the comments: here is an example of someone, in BYOB, using FYAD-style inside humor (trying to "get" FYAD) and being banned for it.

Was it simply mod sass? I guess Jewoven wouldn't have had any legitimate reason to see BYOB as an FYAD type of environment. Right? Joking like that with mods while still respecting their status is apparently restricted to FYAD, and BYOB isn't meant to be anything like FYAD no matter what you've read from Lowtax himself.

Keep that in mind, those of you seeking to emulate the pink forum.

An Open Letter to Lowtax

I'm not RATF but I do have a question. I'll be brief; I'm sure you look forward to wasting my time so I won't waste too much of yours.

GBS is the base forum at SA, the most-trafficked & mainstream of them all, and its users provide many a Photoshop and funny story for your site features. GBS also yields the most bans, which on SA are a probable source of income.

FYAD, your favorite forum, degrades and abuses GBSers at every turn. As part of FYAD, so do you.

Now I don't expect you to respect everyone, but to outright insult and/or ban the majority of your userbase because they don't meet 'yad standards - this seems to defy the point of an all-purpose "General Bullshit" forum that accepts all comers.

Unless GBS is simply a farm for ban money and cost-free comic material.

If that's the case, why not just say so? Maybe then you'll get the respect you so richly (no pun intended) deserve.

(Note to RATF: I hope I didn't appear to be snubbing you by resuming R21C, rather than responding to your offer. It just seemed that many had followed R21C for all the wrong reasons. I guess that's bound to happen when the dregs of the SA forums cling to these blogs, as if we're mere props in a comedy routine - FYAD always has to act like they're "in on" everything.)

Here's RATF's take on new subforum BYOB.

I can't decide who Lowtax is pandering to: the FYAD elite swinging off his callused teats like malformed tard-piglets, or the naive GBSers who author half of the site features for free while being slapped around by admins. Maybe both?

It's painful to watch the GBS masses attempt to prove that they "get" FYAD through all the anti-grammatical comedy train wrecks filling BYOB. It's more distressing that so many are applauding Lowtax for this blatant manipulation, even as the forums' technical errors increase at an exponential rate.

BYOB indeed. It's like an elitist frat house inviting the entire campus to their party, just so that they can get drunk on their own egos. And we all know what happens to naive young co-eds at drunken frat parties.
